"Who makes such a delicate tatami surface"

Hatano's tatami mats

In 2004, we considered that we could further expand the lineup of tatami surfaces that we had inherited from our predecessors.

While searching for various kinds of tatami surfaces, I came across them produced by Hatano Yasuto of Gozagura Jippei.

His tatami surfaces especially luxury items have a unique delicacy.

I fell in love with the beauty of its intricate weaving and immediately decided to add it to our lineup.

Who makes such delicate tatami surfaces?

Unable to contain my curiosity, I went to meet him and discovered a passionate person whose personality was in stark contrast to his products, delicate tatami surfaces.

"Because I have a high sense of beauty"

Time passes, in 2023. In order to develop a new product called "Sasurai," I visited Gozagura Jippei, Uki, Kumamoto again.

Fan-shaped rush grassloom

There were igusa grass spread like a fan shape and the tatami surfaces woven gracefully. Why is it so beautiful?

"That's because we have a high aesthetic sense. These are the kind of tatami surfaces that only we can make," says Hatano.

"We have to be attached"

The field was lined with rows of igusa seedlings that had just been planted.

When cultivating igusa grass, there are many things to be careful about, such as temperature, weather, and soil condition, because it is a natural product, so there is no room for complacency.

"Be attached to igusa grass. You'll never reach perfection. Just keep thinking about igusa grass and be more and more attached to it."

A world created by his uncompromising eyes, precise hands, and spirit that looks decades ahead.

The material he deals with is certainly beautiful "igusa grass", and there is "attachment" to what he create with his own hands.

I would like to put this precious heart into our product, "Sasurai" and convey it to the world.
